Virtual Mallorca - Mallorca guide beaches, restaurants, history and hotels our guide to Mallorca has them all!!
Constantly
beautiful throughout the year, Mallorca is a favourite destination for
the discerning traveller. Every type of hotel accommodation is available,
including luxurious five star establishments, hostels and country inns,
COMETOPALMA.com have hand picked some of the hotels that we consider to
be a cut above the rest.
It's
not just the ordinary tourist who is attracted by all that Mallorca has
to offer. Michael Douglas and Claudia Schiffer are amongst those illustrious
travellers who have fallen in love with the island. And they're not the
first. Back in the 50's it was the haunt of novelist and poet Robert Graves
and Hollywood legends Errol Flynn, Ava Gardner and Rita Hayworth, to name
but a few. Plus further back still, in the early 19th century, the likes
of George Sand and Frederic Chopin spent many months up in the mountains
around Valldemosa.
Voted one of the top 20 country hotels in Europe
(it came 13th)This old finca dating from 1672, with its beautiful
patio and original well, has been restored several times to date.
The most recent renovation was completed in June 1998. Natural
stone flagged floors and ancient rustic beams are combined with
the elegance and traditional interior designed public areas and
guestrooms. This not to mention, of course, the impressive centenary
oil press converted into a gourmet restaurant. Gran Hotel Son
Net has a total of 24 rooms and suites, each named after an important
figure in Mallorcan History. All rooms feature

beds, spacious wardrobes, big marble bathrooms with in-floor radiator,

satellite TV, mini bar, telephone and safe. Guests have a choice
of room category: there are four Classic rooms on the ground floor,
six Superior rooms on the first floor and five Deluxe rooms on
the second floor overlooking the village and the swimming pool.

large windows and huge living rooms offering superb views over
the magnificent countryside. The third Suite is the Casita which
is on the outer part of the house and has a private garden and
swimming pool. The three spacious Royal Suites and one Presidential
Suite have private terraces or gardens, beautiful views, huge
luxurious marble bathrooms, walk-in showers, Jacuzzis and much
more…

Convent
de la Missió is tucked away in Palma's old quarter, next
door to the church of the same name. in a maze of Palma´s
cobbled streets. it was originally a place for the training of missionary
priests, but today is a little hotel of exceptional sophistication
and style.Following three years of careful restoration by the owners,
the hotel opened it's doors at the beginning of 2003. The result
is a masterpiece of design, with carefully preserved 17th century
ecclesiastical architecture blending elegantly with modern minimalism.
Every detail is just right, in the form, the materials, the furnishings
and the decoration. The 14 guest rooms are havens of calm, utilising
neutral colours, fine muslin and smooth oak floors. All are spacious,
and most especially the suites. The public spaces are even more
special, the original high vaulted ceilings and limestone walls
combine with cutting edge design, natural materials and large windows
to show a masterful use of light and space. Up on the roof, the
solarium brings a zen-like peace while down in the old crypt there
is a spa with jacuzzi, sauna and hammam. The art gallery features
exhibitions of paintings, sculpture, photography and ceramics.Beyond
the four walls of the hotel, the historic sites and bars and boutiques
of Palma are right on the doorstep and the international marina
is just a short walk away. Yet this is the old town, with minimal
traffic, so nothing can break the silence of the Convent de la Missio
(except the occasional church bell!).
The
hotel is situated in the very heart of the ancient city, graced
by a fine example of Palmas famed. Walking up to any of its 12 rooms
and suites is like a dream - accents of Majorcan furniture dating
from the 17th and 18th century counterpointed with modern paintings
and sculptures create a luxurious atmospherre, yet one that feels
at home and which includes the most up-to-date services. Strolling
through its halls and lounges, bathing in the covered pool - a restored
ancient roman bath, reading by the fireplace or relaxing to the
agreeable splash of the patio fountain are inimitable experiences
to be savored. The hotel is situated in the

of Glamorgan who turned this ancient palace in the old town into
a boutique hotel. Ten years on, and now owned by locals, the “Palace
of the Welsh Woman” is still the best address in town. With
most of its original 16th-century features intact, and just a dozen
rooms, the Galesa feels like a mix of private house and museum,
the antiques complemented by a collection of modern art, including
two Miros. It’s next door to the cathedral, but, unusually
for such an urban bull’s-eye, not plagued by traffic noise.
It has a small pool in the vaulted cellar, as well as a sauna, a
massage room and a solarium. It also scores on caring touches, such
as the help-yourself suncream on the roof terrace, the bikes for
scooting about town, the serve-yourself tea and cake in the Monet-yellow
kitchen (a replica of the original in Giverny) and the sherry in
the lounge. There is no restaurant, but a full room-service menu
is served wherever you fancy — roof terrace, bishop’s
garden, fountained courtyard, or in a picnic basket, ready for the
beach.
A distinguished
member of design hotels TM. The ultimate lifestyle hotel, casual
and relaxed, in a modern and comfortable luxury. Located in the
old town, just a walk away from the city center and shopping area.
23 rooms decorated in a contemporary modern ethnic touch. Restaurant
and Bar offering a balanced mix of Asian and Mediterranean food
in a lively cosmopolitan ambience. Many restaurants and cafes just
at the doorstep. PURO Billed as an urban oasis, Puro, meaning pure,
is white right down to the goose- feathered lamps and the T-shirt-and-trousered
staff, but with splashes of colour from its Asian/Indian/Moroccan
furnishings. Most of the superfashionable clients wear jet black,
moving around the place like pieces on a chessboard. Everything
about the 26 rooms, with their slate-black bathrooms segregated
by carved wooden screens from Burma, is chic sim- plicity, apart
from the television and the sound system. The Puro mood is cool,
especially in the candlelit bar and the courtyard, where beautiful
folk loaf on Arabian-style sofas, puffing away at the house hookah
pipes. Another popular chillout space is the wooden-decked rooftop,
with canopied day beds arranged around the plunge pool. Puro could
easily have gone the way of style over substance, except that the
substance is actually rather impressive, the staff are pretty but
very pleasant, and the food in the Opio rest-aurant is pretty but
very good.
This seafront hotel is Swedish-owned and Scandic
chic. What makes it romantic is a combination of ingredients.
The first is its location, just that little bit adrift from mainstream
Palma in the lovely, trendy, small harbour village of Portixol,
which is a 20-minute walk east following the sea.The second is
the unlikelihood of having to share your escape with other Brits
(certainly none who have come on a package, as the owners don’t
do tour operators). The third is the place itself. This is a self-contained
entity with a light, spacious, boaty feel, a good restaurant —
seafood is a speciality — a lively bar (with jazz on Thursdays),
a lounge with an LP deck and a collection of 2,000 albums, a gym
with a sauna and massages, a large pool and an out- door deck.
All that for just 23 rooms of muted colours, wood floors and big
beds with crisp white linen. All in all, a bit of a find. we would
advise that you pay an extra £20 for a romantic Med view.
TRES Opened with
much fanfare in june 2004, Located in the historic and trendy La
Lonja barrio part of it is converted from a 16th-century merchant’s
house; the rest is a 1960s block whose interior has been softened
by fabric loosely lining the corridor walls. Of the 41 rooms, 18
are in the original building, and have beams and loftier ceilings.
Those in the newer wing are lighter, with full-length windows opening
onto the courtyard, where breakfast is served beneath a towering
palm tree. The lounge has a real fire and a large plasma-screen
television. The rooms are fashionably uncluttered, with arty nude
photos over the beds and clever bed-width tables on wheels that
you can roll up to your pillows for breakfast (or supper with a
DVD from the library). The Tres has a fifth-floor roof terrace,
with views head and shoulders above most of the neighbours, a plunge
pool and a sauna with a window looking across to the cathedral.
Abaco, Palma’s trendier than thou, pricey
nightspot is right next door.
The Son Vida, placed in a beautiful castle of
medieval origin, modernized with a select and elegant decoration,
combines the quality of the installation together with good taste
and excellence in order to make your stay unforgettable. Effective
February 01 2005 Castillo Hotel Son Vida will close for 1 year
for renovations and will re-open on February 03, 2006. The renovation
and conversion work first got under way in the hotel as early
as 2001. Since then, 67 rooms, the Health Club including beauty
farm, the main restaurant Bellver, several conference rooms and
the hotel's enchanting terrace have been renovated for just under
12 million Euro. The redesign of the remaining 100 rooms and the
conversion of the entrance and reception areas including office
rooms, the gourmet restaurant El Jardin, the Bar Armas and the
remaining conference rooms is to go ahead in February 2005. In
addition, the tennis courts are to be re-built in accordance with
tournament specifications, a children's pool is to be constructed
and the hotel's car parking space is to be extended. The prime
objective of this extensive renovation work is to maintain the
traditional, romantic character of the establishment. True to
this aim, the rooms and suites although optimally fitted with
technical amenities will be given a timelessly classical interior
design in which bespoke materials will enhance the Mallorcan /
Mediterranean style of the hotel. Effective January 30, 2005 until
further notice - hotel closed for major renovations.
